Yeah, I guess most people know who this guy is, it is Han Solo.
This piece is made on marker paper, size 21 x 29,7 cm. The media used were markers and Prismacolor pencils. My main inspiration for this piece was the work of Mark Raats [link] . This guy is really great with pencils. What I also like about his work is the way how he is creating the tones. It's not cross hatching, but a very modern way that I like a lot. I tried to use the same technique here. I closely studied his version of Solo [link] . The reference used for Solo was an image of a drawing I found in a book called You Can Draw Star Wars (ISBN 978-0-7566-2343-2) written by Matt Bush on page 68. But you can also find many examples of this photo here [link] . I guess Matt used the same material to use his drawing! The Star Destroyer and the Falcon were also referenced from the same book, on page 65 and 68. I also discovered a photo of the Falcon in the book Star Wars, the visual dictionary (ISBN 0-7894-3481-4) on page 15. Probably Matt used the same picture. There is nothing wrong with that of course, I just find it funny to see that the pro's appearently use the same reference as the amateurs! The difference is of course that they are hired by LucasArts, and the amateurs are not! Anyway, as usual I really enjoyed creating this piece. It was a great excercise in exploring a new style, which gives me new inspiration to investigate further. Last but not least, thanks to Mark Raats for posting his wonderfull work and inspiring me. And I would also like to say Hi to Bonne, my colleaugue. Lately he is also watching my gallery which I appreciate very much. Thanks for watching and take care! (by the way, this one is not for sale, unless your name is George Lucas, Harrison Ford or Carrie Fisher) |
